Green Economy

DOpla’s objectives:
Sustainability, Zero-Impact, Innovation

The coming years will demand major commitments from DOpla, we aim not only to maintain and to increase our market shares, but also to reaffirm our leadership on the environmental sustainability front. Ready for change, ready for new challenges, ready to confront the market but also ready to confront the boundaries set by the European Union on energy saving.
In addition to the reduction of plastics (for further information, please refer to the Truth About Plastic Tableware), the EU has set climate and energy targets for 2020, 2030 and 2050.
The targets for 2030 require a 30% saving in energy consumption, and a 40% reduction in greenhouse gases, compared to levels in 1990.
We at DOpla want to be at the forefront to achieve these results and have always paid great attention to the Green Economy, with the aim of combining the practicality, affordability and reliability of Disposables with environmental sustainability.
These are not just words, but a daily commitment with concrete results which we are very pleased to share with you.
With the aim of improving the environmental sustainability of our production process, DOpla alongside Enel Energia will carry out two large-scale projects to improve the energy efficiency of our plants in Casale sul Sile and Manfredonia.

ENEL will be installing Trigeneration plants which will reduce our external energy supply by 50%.

What are Trigeneration plants? These are systems that can produce electricity, heat and cold water from the same primary energy source (methane gas).

These new trigeneration plants will allow us to reduce our CO2 emissions by 5,361 tons a year at the site in Casale and 6,552 tons a year at Manfredonia, every year!

These are results that fill us with pride and with which we want to give back to the communities that host us and to the Planet which also benefits from our work.
Another goal we have set for ourselves is to minimize our environmental impact: zero waste, zero emissions, reduction in the volume of packaging and logistics optimization.
In other words, continuous research to improve the cycle of design, production and distribution of products, reducing consumption and environmental pollution.

We generate zero waste from our productions, because at every stage, every part can be infinitely recycled and reinserted into the process to give it new life.

We are also part of COREPLA – the Italian National Consortium for the Collection, Recycling and Recovery of Plastic Packaging - which has, for years, been committed to combating plastic pollution, through prevention activities, differentiated collection, value enhancement and energy recovery of waste.
There is a number that makes us particularly proud, and it concerns neither our turnover nor the quantity of products sold, it is our innovation rate that exceeds 11%.

An innovation rate that in reality not only generates new products but also new production sites.

In addition to the investment in Trigeneration plants and the acquisition of the Spanish Company Nupik, part of our investment policy focuses on the plant in the Czech Republic.

Here, work has been completed for a 1,500 square meters manufacturing site which will host machinery purely dedicated to transforming cellulose pulp, those which until now have only been arriving in Europe from faraway China.

Cellulose pulp is obtained from the residual fibers of vegetable processing, such as bamboo and sugar cane.

This material maintains almost all the characteristics of plastic, despite having vegetable origin making it an alternative material which the European Union very much aims to promote in an innovative bioeconomy.
